Centuries ago, tradesman and untrained woodworkers began producing furniture what is now called “American Country Furniture” by author and designer Mary Emmerling. They simplified the lines of formal furniture such as Queen Anne and Federal furniture styles and even created vernacular styles. Shaker furniture is an example of how these tradesmen adapted simple furniture from formal furniture. American country furniture continues to be revived as this style is becoming increasingly popular in many galleries and homes today. These timeless pieces of Americana carry with them character, patina, and beautiful finishes. I reproduce these same styles in both my Windsor chairs and custom furniture, taking notes from original antiques and making them work for today’s home. Whether it’s an entertainment center armoire or a sideboard buffet table, I create beautiful pieces that can both stand the test of time and look like they already have.
